Design 1: Squirrel Shaped Necklace
The little scurrying squirrel scampering through parks and forests holds a surprising amount of spiritual and cultural significance across the globe. Many Native American tribes revere the squirrel for its industriousness in gathering and storing nuts for winter. This characteristic symbolizes the importance of planning ahead and being prepared for challenging times. In some traditions, squirrels act as messengers between the earthly and spiritual realms. Certain tribes view them as trickster figures, reminding humans not to take themselves too seriously. In Norse mythology, Ratatoskr, a red squirrel, scurries up and down the world tree Yggdrasil, carrying messages between the eagle perched at the top and the serpent dwelling below. He represents communication and the interconnectedness of all things. Celts associate squirrels with the earth goddess and abundance. Their presence is seen as a sign of good luck and prosperity, reminding humans to appreciate the bounty of nature. In some Asian cultures, squirrels are symbols of good luck and fortune. Their playful nature is seen as a reminder to find joy in life’s simple pleasures. The squirrel’s keen senses and knack for finding hidden stashes of food are interpreted by some as symbols of foresight and intuition.

Design 2: Necklace Quotation
While not exactly quotation marks, the earliest indicators for quoted speech can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. They used a symbol called the “diple” (a chevron shape) in the margin to draw attention to noteworthy passages, not necessarily quotations. During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the focus shifted from marginal notations to incorporating marks within the text itself. Early iterations involved double commas or forward slashes at the beginning and end of quotations. By the 18th century, the double quotation mark became increasingly favored, likely due to the invention of metal type sets that made them easier to use in printing. While the double quotation mark became dominant in many Western countries, variations emerged elsewhere. For example, some languages like French use guillemets (« ») or angle brackets (‹ ›) for quotations.
